Happy Valentine’s Day for Petite & Sweet

Happy Valentine’s Day Everyone.  Whether you celebrate it or not, make sure you treat yourself to something sweet.  Just don’t get too messy while eating all that sweetness.

Back in December, before our trip to North Africa, we were asked by the sweet team of Petite & Sweet (you’ve seen them on Sugar Stars TV series on FoodNetwork) to shoot their Valentine’s Day table.  There is nothing better than splattering the beautiful white table with red chocolate.  Of course a sweet table can never be without delicious French Macarons, or cupcakes, mouth watering cakes and sugar cookies.  Enjoy!

Balloon Splashes with Triggertrap

After a long wait I have received the Triggertrap v1which should make my liquid photography a bit easier, specially when you can’t get someone to keep hitting that shutter button. I tested it it out with filling up some balloons with water, some clean and some coloured with food colouring. Triggertrap was set to Sound Mode. Here are some images from today’s test. They feel kind of galactic, like millions of miles away in the galaxy. Enjoy!

I have also posted these on my website at GABETOTH.COM, which is undergoing some changes. So when you have some time check it out please.

Milk Man

Strange things happen when you shoot milk at high speed.  While this was one of the unsuccessful shots and I enhanced it with Photoshop for the fun of it, this was definitely a fun shoot.  And a very messy one.  I can’t wait for my TRIGGERTRAP (which I backed as part of the Kickstarter project) to arrive so I can accurately time the camera to take the shot and to minimize the amount of liquids splattered all over the studio, on my camera and on me.  Can’t wait to test it in April.

Macarons

The other day a good friend of mine sent me a picture of her lovely daughter holding up a book titled Macaroons.  I am still surprised how many people don’t know the difference between macaroons (think of coconut macaroons) and macarons, which are made of almond flour and are a delicacy coming directly from Paris.  So we created a mock up book cover with the latest shots of Hardi’s creations.  The truth is though, we are thinking about creating a real book too with all his amazing recipes.  They are delicious and the best macarons in Toronto.  I’ve been told.

How To Get Ready For Your Headshots Session

In the past few years I had numerous people (200+)  coming into my studio for headshots and some were prepared better than others.  I know that for some it’s a first time experience to have their headshots done in my Toronto studio.  Here I compiled a list of Do’s and Don’ts on how to get ready for your successful headshot session.  Remember, at the end, it’s all about you, headshots must represent you.  We will help you get relaxed and provide good time and images that will reflect you and your personality.  You bring the rest.

How To Prepare For Your Professional Headshots Session

We are looking forward to work with you and to deliver images that will get you through the doors of casting directors. This document outlines how you should get ready for your photoshoot. If you ordered the services of the Makeup artist/Hairstylist:

      1. Make sure that you wash your hair day before your session.  Do not use any gels or hairsprays or any other hair products.
      2. Your face must be washed, clean and without any makeup or residues of makeup.  Yes, even mascara is not allowed.

If you are doing your own Makeup/Hair or have your own Makeup artist:

      1. Make sure that you come to your session with your hair ready.
      2. Makeup should be applied prior to your session.  You will get a chance to do any touchups and/or adjustments.  Very natural makeup is advised to show your natural face without any distracting elements.  It’s easier for the casting directors to imagine what a person looks like with makeup than without it.

For Everyone:

      1. Your nails should be clean, without nail polish or residues of nail polish.
      2. Wear clean, unscented deodorant and no perfumes or colognes.
      3. Apply plenty of moisturizer to your skin.
      4. Make sure your hair is in good condition, no fresh haircut, no roots showing.
      5. Your eyebrows should be in good condition.  Make sure that you have them done well in advance to ensure that no rash/red marks are visible on the day of your session.
      6. Drink lots of fluids to stay hydrated.
      7. All unnecessary hair should be removed or bleached.
      8. Ensure good night sleep for a fresh look during your headshot session.  None of us want to wake up with blood shot eyes or bags under the eyes.
      9. Minimize the amount of your accessories.  Less is better.  Remember, you want the eyes to be drawn to your face and eyes and not to other elements in the image.
      10. Avoid wearing tight clothing and/or accessories that leave marks on your body (watches, eyeglasses).  If you choose to wear clothes that might show your bare shoulders wear a strapless bra.  It takes few hours before the marks are gone from your skin.
      11. All your clothes should be pressed without any fold marks.
      12. Clothes with large logos are unacceptable.  Small logos on a plain background can be removed easily.
      13. Avoid clothes with patterns or clothes with extremely bright colours.
      14. Do bring your favourite outfit.
      15. BRING YOUR BIG SMILE AND CHEERFULNESS.  We will need it to have fun and to be relaxed.

Hope these points help you prepare yourself for your session.  If you have any questions please send an email to info@gtheadshots.com.  We are looking forward to work with you and to have a great time during your session.
